A Watershed Moment for Non-Alcoholic Wines!!
British start-up Bolle Drinks (BOLLE) is making waves with its innovative non-alcoholic wines and has achieved a historic milestone by winning Best in Show for Sparkling Wine at this year’s Monterey International Wine Competition.

This remarkable achievement marks the first time that a non-alcoholic (NA) wine has competed against regular wines and won Best of Show. Also taking home Best Non-Alcoholic wine, the Rosé scored an impressive 95 points and earned a Platinum Medal.
BOLLE’s other entry, the Blanc de Blancs, was just 1 point behind on 94 points.
In its 32nd year, the Monterey International Wine Competition featured a panel of esteemed judges representing all facets of the wine industry in the United States. These experts tasted hundreds of entries, resulting in the selection of just 5 “Best of Show” (Red, White, Rosé, Sparkling & Dessert Wine) awards.
This ground-breaking win positions BOLLE Rosé NV as a serious contender in the sparkling wine category, elevating the profile of NA wines and paving the way for future innovations within the segment.

Gary Read, CEO of BOLLE, who also appeared as a guest on the Low No Drinker in ep#39 to discuss the remarkable journey of the brand, expressed his excitement over the win: “Winning Best in Show at such a reputable competition is not only an honour for us at BOLLE but also a key moment for the NA wine category. It’s proof of the rapid improvement of NA wines in terms of quality and taste.”
Roberto Vanin, Chief Wine Maker and Founder at BOLLE, said, “It’s wonderful to see recognition of the many years of work and innovation. We are the only NA wine in the world to be twice fermented using our patent-pending wine-making process. I’m looking forward to continuing to improve for the future also.”
“There are more and more non-alcoholic wines coming to market. BOLLE Sparkling Rosé ups the ante in the quality department and is one of the first non-alcoholic wines that I can recommend without hesitation - it deserves its accolades.” Rich Cook, Director, Monterey International Wine Competition.
Laura Willoughby, Co-founder of Club Soda, concluded, “Wow - what a milestone for alcohol-free wine. If you were unsure about trying alcohol-free wine, then this accolade will stop you in your tracks - now is the time to take a look at what has changed and add alcohol-free wines to your menu.“
